To get the formula right, the Race to Learn team has worked closely with teachers from several primary schools. Race to Learn has been a resounding success in numerous student trialling sessions, for boys as well as girls, and for every kind of learner.
Oakdale Junior School, Redbridge
This video features the experiences of Class 6H from the Oakdale Junior School in Redbridge, London. Here's what their teacher, Dawn Hallybone, said about the software:
“I would recommend Race to Learn to other teachers because it’s team work, it’s video, it’s getting the children talking.
"When they’re working in a group, you’re giving them all the things they are interested in, you’re just giving them a real-life context for their learning.”
Gainsborough Primary School, Hackney
Read the case study on Gainsborough Primary School in Hackney who has been making great use of Race to Learn to involve the children in a range of different activities, including designing new logo’s posters, circuit layouts and marketing pitches.
"After the pressure of the SATs, Race to Learn made a really welcome change, both for myself and the children. We spent 3 weeks solely working on the project and the children really enjoyed it.
"I felt it was important, in preparation for the transition to secondary school, to allow them to work independently without so much teacher input. I resisted the urge to tell them how to complete the tasks instead allowing them the opportunity to plan, adapt and persevere. I will definitely be running Race to Learn again this year!" Paul Robinson, Year 6 teacher, Gainsborough Primary School.
